Miami Dade College (MDC) was honored recently as the Non-Profit Education Organization of the Year at the 28th annual Sunshine Awards luncheon by the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SFLHCC). The luncheon was held at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables.

The SFLHCC Sunshine Awards are presented annually to companies that excel and shine in their respective fields with strong emphasis on diversity and inclusion.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce,” said MDC president Madeline Pumariega. “With Hispanics making up more than 75 percent of MDC students, we are deeply committed to creating new pathways and opportunities that support our diverse student body.”

The mission of SFLHCC is to promote the continued growth and development of the Hispanic business community and to serve as a resource center and forum to advocate for Hispanic and minority-owned businesses. The organization is comprised of dedicated professional individuals and business owners who have come together to advance the commercial, financial, educational and civic interests of the ever-growing Hispanic community of South Florida.

Founded 25 years ago, the SFLHCC is considered one of the top five Hispanic Chambers of Commerce in the country, offering its members different activities in which to network and meet possible business prospects. For more information, visit www.sflhcc.com.
