The Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) has announced that Anthony Howard has been named the Florida Public Transportation Association (FPTA) 2024 Operator of the Year. The prestigious award will be presented to him at the FPTA/CTD Annual Conference on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m., in West Palm Beach.

Howard, a dedicated Miami-Dade Transit employee for 23 years, has consistently displayed professionalism and excellence in his role as a bus operator. His commitment to customer service is evident in his polite interactions, provision of helpful information, and unwavering focus on safety. Last year, he came in second for the same award, making this year’s recognition even more significant.

“Anthony’s dedication to public service and his exceptional performance as a bus operator have set a high standard for all our employees,” said Eulois Cleckley, director and CEO of the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW). “We are immensely proud of his achievements and his representation of our values. We look forward to celebrating his achievements at the upcoming FPTA/CTD Annual Conference and continuing to support his exemplary service in our community.”

The FPTA Operator of the Year award recognizes an outstanding operator, from a transportation agency in Florida, whose service has enriched and enhanced public transportation in their community.

Nominees for this award must exhibit a cooperative attitude towards their job, pay detailed attention to their professional appearance, assist passengers and other staff members willingly, greet passengers politely and friendly, drive safely, be courteous to other drivers on the road, and go above and beyond the call of duty.

Howard embodies these qualities, making him a deserving recipient of this honor. His contributions to Miami-Dade County have not only improved the daily commute of countless Metrobus passengers but also enhanced the overall reputation of the public transportation system.

DTPW extends heartfelt congratulations to him for this well-deserved recognition.
