Miami Ad School (MAS) will become the first institute of higher learning in Wynwood. Construction has been completed and it will host its opening event on Dec. 5.

Located at 571 NW 28 St., the campus buildings are covered in murals painted by internationally recognized street artists. It has green space for students, equipped with Wi-Fi and power outlets, in the heart of an area that is becoming known as an emerging arts district.

“With a 98 percent placement rate of graduates working in their chosen field, and 96 percent of students getting realworld experience in an agency before graduation, MAS is at the intersection of education and the real world,” said Pippa Seichrist, co-founder of MAS.

The newly built campus is on the end of a city block and has two 7,000-square-foot buildings, connected by a bridge. Painted hot pink, the facility has photo studios, a video conferencing center, brainstorming stations, and experiential classrooms. One such classroom is covered in projections of jellyfish and plays the ethereal cello music of Yo-Yo Ma. Other classes are held in converted silver airstream trailers complete with neon lights underneath.

Miami Ad School started in 1993 as a single school founded by Ron and Pippa Seichrist to provide the kind of portfolio school they said they wish they could have attended. It since evolved into “the only truly global educational network for the marketing, advertising and communications industry.”

The school now has 14 locations including Berlin, Buenos Aires, Hamburg, Istanbul, Mexico, Miami, Minneapolis, Mumbai, New York, Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco, Sao Paulo and Sydney, all specializing in the field of advertising and design.

In celebration of its grand opening, MAS is hosting its first Miami Art Week event titled “SoakUp,” with featured street artists from around the world, live installations, and activities.
