The Miami Chapter of Jack and Jill of America Inc. commemorated Black History Month in February with a transformative cultural and service experience in Nassau, Bahamas, during its inaugural chapter trip themed “Roots Across Waters – Bahamian Legacies in Miami.”
The centerpiece of the visit was an immersive tour of Clifton Heritage National Park, where chapter families explored preserved plantation ruins, slave quarters, and ancestral memorial sites. The experience offered youth a living history lesson on the resilience and contributions of Bahamian ancestors and deepened their understanding of the historic connections between Nassau and Miami’s earliest Black communities. The group also visited the historic Queen’s Staircase, reflecting on its powerful legacy as a symbol of perseverance and freedom.
In alignment with the organization’s commitment to service and leadership development, the chapter conducted a philanthropic book drive benefiting students of Mount Carmel Preparatory Academy. Children’s books authored by Afro-Caribbean writers were donated to promote literacy, cultural pride, and representation in education.
The initiative symbolized unity across borders and generations — merging cultural education with meaningful community impact.
“Our children did not simply learn about history — they stood in it, honored it, and gave back,” said chapter leadership.
The Miami Chapter of Jack and Jill of America Inc. remains dedicated to nurturing future leaders through service, civic engagement, and cultural awareness — ensuring that heritage continues to inspire the next generation.
