Miami Children’s Museum has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the prestigious Hearst Foundations.
The grant supports educational programs at the museum and within the community, including summer camp, STEAM Integration Program for Early Head Start/Head Start, an afterschool program, and public programs.
This initiative affords hands-on educational programming for all young children, regardless of socio-economic ability, that uses literacy, visual arts, music, theater, and STEM-based activities to offer sensory experiences, promote learning through play, develop creativity and critical thinking, and build school readiness skills.
“We are honored to receive such an important grant from the Hearst Foundations,” said Deborah Spiegelman, CEO and executive director of Miami Children’s Museum. “It gives us an essential boost in creating and expanding many of our important educational programs that bring a quality experience to our community.
“We are the premier institution serving young children and their families while inspiring children to learn about themselves and the diverse world in which they live through arts and culture, science, literacy, and early childhood education,” Spiegelman added.
“The mission of the Hearst Foundations is to identify and fund outstanding nonprofits to ensure that people of all ages and backgrounds in the United States can build healthy, productive and satisfying lives,” said Paul Dinovitz, executive director of the foundation.
“Miami Children’s Museum is an exemplary organization helping the youngest members of our communities get a strong start in their cognitive and social-emotional development.”
As the only children’s museum in the nation with an onsite elementary charter school and preschool, Miami Children’s Museum receives recognition as one of the premier institutions serving young children and families.
Admission to the Museum is $24 for adults and children, $16 for Florida residents, free for children under 1 year, and admission for Museum Members is complimentary. Advance ticket purchase is required through the Museum’s website at miamichildrensmuseum.org as session tickets fill up quickly The museum is located at 980 MacArthur Causeway on Watson Island.
The Museum provides an inclusive environment where all children are encouraged to play, learn, imagine, create, and explore through hands-on interaction with exhibits, arts-based activities programs, and performances. Miami Children’s Museum offers bilingual and interactive exhibits, programs, classes and learning materials related to arts, culture, community, and communication The museum has 17 interactive galleries and houses many exciting and fun traveling exhibits.
