Miami Children’s Museum gets $15,000 from National Endowment for the Arts

National Endowment for the Arts chair Jane Chu has approved more than $82 million to fund local arts projects and partnerships in the NEA’s second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2016. Included in this announcement is an Art Works award of $15,000 to Miami Children’s Museum (MCM) to support MCM’s Art Bursts Miami: Artist Interactions for Kids.

The Art Works category supports the creation of work and presentation of both new and existing work, lifelong learning in the arts, and public engagement with the arts through 13 arts disciplines or fields.

“The arts are all around us, enhancing our lives in ways both subtle and obvious, expected and unexpected,” Chu said. “Supporting projects like the one from Miami Children’s Museum offers more opportunities to engage in the arts every day.”

MCM’s Art Bursts Miami: Artist Interactions for Kids is an eight-part series of public programs that will create opportunities for children to engage in the visual and performing arts as a way of building cultural awareness and interest in the arts.

Professional artists, with the help of expert museum staff, will provide children with hands-on experiences in a variety of art forms through mini-performances, demonstrations, talks and workshops. These activities will be designed to increase children’s engagement with the arts, provide fun opportunities for interactions with the artists and create awareness of careers in the arts, through the presentation of exciting cultural traditions. The goal of this project is to inspire children to get involved in the arts, grow their knowledge of art disciplines and careers options that are available to them.

“Receiving this grant is an honor and Miami Children’s Museum is very grateful to be able to continue being the town center for children and families to gather and the ideal venue for children to engage with and explore the arts,” said Deborah Spiegelman, CEO/executive director at MCM.
