Miami Children’s Museum is now open for exploration. The museum once again opens its doors to the public every day of the week.

In May, after more than a year of being closed, the museum reopened on a limited basis on Saturdays and Sundays. Now you can visit the museum any day of the week. There will be three limited-capacity, two-hour play sessions each day. Before each play session, team members will thoroughly clean the exhibits, disinfect props and launder costumes.

These sessions will run from 10 a.m. to noon, 1 to 3 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Tickets for the general public are available now for these timed play sessions and must be purchased in advance through the museum’s website at miamichildrensmuseum.org. The museum is located at 980 MacArthur Causeway on Watson Island in Miami.

On Saturday, June 19, Miami Children’s Museum welcomes back the fantastic Wizard of Oz educational exhibition. Created by the Museum and licensed by Warner Bros. Consumer Products, this interactive fantasy-adventure takes children and families over the rainbow to experience the magic of this beloved film. The Wizard of Oz children’s educational exhibition is a journey of self-discovery for the whole family.

Guests travel from the Gale Farm to the colorful Land of Oz, where they explore Munchkinland, The Crossroads, The Witch’s Castle and The Emerald City before heading back over the rainbow to Miami, because, of course, “there’s no place like home.”

“We feel so very fortunate to have our wonderful exhibits open to the public every day again,” said Deborah Spiegelman, CEO and executive director of the museum. “And bringing back our popular Wizard of Oz Exhibit just adds to the excitement. We are so looking forward to safely providing a quality museum experience to South Florida’s children and families so they can play, learn, imagine and create every day of the week.”

Now that Miami Children’s Museum is open seven days a week, families will be able to experience all the interactive joys of the facility’s many permanent exhibits and outdoor play areas. Slide down the majestic Sandcastle, shop in the Publix Supermarket, test yourself in the Baptist Health and Wellness Center, play a tune on the Big Piano like the one in the movie Big, play the scales on the musical staircase (considered the longest in the world), then take a cruise on the only indoor Carnival cruise ship and so much more.

Construction is underway for an exciting new outdoor interactive area and a new covered walkway to the facility.

The museum knew that due to the interactive aspect of the facility, it had no choice but to temporarily suspend operation during the pandemic. But they never let that stop them. The museum pivoted to create “Museum at Home,” an online program that provided videos and activities for children and families quarantined in their homes. The museum’s online programming served families virtually, creating more than 450 programs which remain available on its website and social media platforms. They will continue their online presence to bring programming to children around the world.

The museum also worked to continue its outreach programs to underserved communities and, together with its partners, distributed 50,000 pounds of food to families in need and served more than 10,000 people through specialty drive-through celebrations that focused on healthy lifestyles, literacy, autism awareness and more. The museum also continued its commitment to their Miami Children’s Museum Charter School and Miami Children’s Museum Preschool students to continue their learning and educational experiences both online and in person.

The museum created virtual platforms for all those enrolled and has continued to operate them successfully since its closure in March 2020.

Temperatures will be taken prior to entering the building and masks will be required at all times for adults and children ages 2 and older. Admission to the museum is $22 for adults and children, $15 for Florida residents, free for children under 1 year and admission for museum members is complimentary. Advance ticket purchase is required through the Museum’s website miamichildrensmuseum.org.

Families still can access Miami Children’s Museum’s exciting “Museum at Home” online program, which brings the experiences of the museum to the safety and comfort of one’s own home. Among the ways to access the program are:
