During a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Miami Dade College (MDC) made history recently with the launch of its new, state-of-the-art Cybersecurity Center of the Americas and Cyber Range training facility, the only one of its kind in the region and powered by Cyberbit Ltd, a world leader of cybersecurity simulation and IT/OT detection and response platforms.

“Always striving to be at the forefront of innovation and address workforce demands of the 21st Century, MDC’s new cybersecurity center offers the most advanced technology to train a new generation of cyberattack experts,” said MDC president Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón.

A cyberattack occurs every 39 seconds, according to a Clark School study. With the importance of cybersecurity growing in today’s digital world and the ever-increasing demand for professionals in this area, MDC once again takes the lead to train the workforce of tomorrow today. The Cyber Range is a cutting-edge training platform to learn how to detect, stop, and remediate cyberattacks in real-time. The facility is designed to mimic what a SOC (Security Operations Center) looks and feels like.

Open to students and professionals, trainees will experience live cyberattacks and learn how to respond to today’s advanced hacks and cyber threats. The unique training, coupled with theoretical learning, will give students a competitive advantage as they enter the workforce and will give working professionals the opportunity to advance their careers.

Training by simulation is proven to dramatically increase the skills of cybersecurity workforces and prepare them to meet the increasing complexity and volume of real-life cyber threats. By training the next generation of security experts, MDC will help to fill the more than 285,000 cybersecurity jobs currently open throughout the country, and more than 12,000 in Florida.

“With more than 12,000 unfilled cybersecurity jobs in Florida alone, this new center will have a huge impact on both the cyber resilience and economy of the region,” said Adi Dar, CEO at Cyberbit. “Cyberbit is rapidly rolling out its hyper-realistic cybersecurity training and simulation platform, which enables trainees to experience true-to-life cyberattack scenarios and practice responding to them, at institutions of higher education across North America.”

With the growing importance of cybersecurity in the global environment, MDC’s Cybersecurity Center will not only provide Cyber Range training programs but also serve the community by hosting dynamic forums, speakers, and other events that increase awareness of threats and provide educational opportunities for attendees.
