Mayor Daniella Levine Cava distributes baby formula to families at the Centro Mater East Head Start Center. As communities nationwide face baby formula shortages, Miami-Dade County delivered much needed baby formula to help families in need and provide vital food for their children after receiving a donation of nearly 4,000 cans of Enfamil formula from Nomi Health. The formula was delivered to families in need through the County’s Head Start Program. Mayor Daniella Levine Cava distributed a month and a half supply of baby formula to over 20 families at the Centro Mater East Head Start Center.

“As a mother and a grandmother, I can imagine the fear many new parents must be feeling not knowing how they will be able to feed their babies,” said Mayor Levine Cava. “I’m proud the county could help get the formula directly to some of the families that need it the most in our community.”

Laura Monteagugo, a mother of two who was among the recipients of the formula, said, “This comes at a good time and is great for our community, food is important to the development of our children. Thanks to the mayor for everything she does for our community.”

“At its core, Nomi Health is dedicated to the health and wellbeing of everyone in the community,” said Ron Goncalves, Florida president and general manager for Nomi Health.

“We are committed to helping families stay healthy, and we are proud of expanding our partnership with Miami-Dade County to ensure that the formula got to the hands of the families that needed it the most.”

Families at the heart of the crisis can call 211 or go online for tips to help families find infant formula during the shortage at www.hhs.gov/formula/index.html.

There are approximately 600 families at 46 centers in the Head Start, Early Head Start network with infants who are benefitting from this distribution.
