Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava recently announced that Margaret Brisbane, currently the interim director of the Information Technology Department (ITD), will become the county’s new permanent information technology director/chief information officer.

“Margaret has been an outstanding leader within ITD, and I am committed to recognizing and advancing the great talent within Miami-Dade County and diversifying our senior leadership,” said Mayor Levine Cava. “I am also thrilled that a woman of color will be running our technology department for the first time as we lead by example from within county government in uplifting diverse leaders in tech.

“She has also shown a great commitment to modernizing our IT infrastructure to better connect our residents with county services,” the mayor added.

“I’m thrilled to take on the role of chief information officer and to continue the department’s great work developing technology solutions to better meet the challenges of this current moment and serve our nearly 3 million residents,” Brisbane said. “And I’m proud to serve as the county’s first-ever woman chief information officer at this pivotal moment for diversity in technology in Miami-Dade.”

As interim director, Brisbane led her team in implementing the new Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) system to streamline and modernize the county’s business processes and technologies, providing an integrated system countywide for financial and supply chain needs. She led planning, directing, and coordinating of the extensive and complex activities of the department, including managing Cybersecurity, Data Center operations, network and radio infrastructure, and more.

Among her many accomplishments during her tenure with the county since 2005, she led the oversight of three distinct technology branches with countywide operational impact; led the development of numerous applications to support the county’s COVID crisis response, such as implementing GIS and other technology solutions for food distribution sites, COVID testing and vaccination sites, and more, and played a major leadership role in technology events such as eMerge.

Brisbane holds a Master of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Florida International University.
