The Miami-Dade County School Board at its Mar. 17 meeting unanimously approved Agenda Item H-4, proffered by Board Member Lucia Baez-Geller and co-sponsored by all board members.

This item recognizes the Days of Remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust to be Apr. 4 through Apr. 11, 2021 and calls for the observance of Yom Hashoah on Apr. 8 in all Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Item H-4 also directs the superintendent to include the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s working definition of anti-semitism in the annually updated curriculum packet.

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s working definition of antisemitism reads as follows: “Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews which may be expressed as hatred towards Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.”

Fred Mulbauer, a Holocaust survivor, demonstrated his support for Board Member Baez-Geller’s commitment to Holocaust education via a video that was shown during the School Board meeting. The video can be viewed at https://eduvision.tv/l?emRyOgt.
