The Miami Downtown Development Authority (Miami DDA) has announced the selection of Rebecca Pollesch as the recipient of a 100 percent paid scholarship for a Professional MBA from Florida International University’s Chapman Graduate School of Business at its new FIU Downtown on Brickell facility.

The announcement was made as part of the facility’s grand opening festivities. The scholarship, valued at $45,000, was made available by the DDA to anyone who works or lives in downtown. Rebecca was selected for her exceptional essay submission focused on how she will use her MBA education to improve downtown.

“Downtown Miami is now a vibrant urban center where people not only work, but live. With 200,000 workers in the area daily and more than 70,000 residents call-ing it home, there is an unprecedented need for higher education opportunities in the area” said Miami DDA executive director Alyce Robertson.

“We are proud to help inaugurate the new FIU downtown facility by awarding a full MBA scholarship. We know that Rebecca and many others will gain a quality education that they will benefit from for years to come.”

The new facility, located at 1101 Brickell Ave., houses FIU’s College of Business Administration and School of International and Public Affairs programs, as well as the Metropolitan Center, a research center focused on economic development, land use, housing, and applied social research. The facility is opening its doors at an opportune moment, as Miami’s urban core continues to see significant increase in residential and commercial activity.

“FIU Downtown on Brickell will be place where all downtowners — residents, workers, international leaders — will come to learn and hone their skills,” said FIU president Mark B. Rosenberg. “We are excited to have a stronger presence in our vibrant urban core and look forward to welcoming students to our new facility.”

The Miami DDA also announced that it will be offering two additional partial scholarships in 2012 for FIU’s downtown facility, one for a Flex MBA and another for an MA in Global Governance. These additional scholarships will help continue to increase access to higher education for those who live or work in downtown. Details for those scholarships will be posted on the DDA website at www.miamidda.com.
