As part of its never-ending mission to improve the quality of life for all residents in Miami-Dade County, The Miami Foundation has awarded more than $1 million in community grants to 70 local nonprofit organizations.
Among some of the recipients sharing in the endowment include CARE Elementary School, which brings reading, literacy, and technology to under-served communities, and Legal Services of Greater Miami, which assists homeless veterans in securing housing.
Other nonprofits benefitting are Guitars Over Guns, which mentors at-risk youth using musical education as an alternative to negative or harmful influences, and Shake-A-Leg Miami, an adaptive watersports community serving residents of all abilities.
The grants were awarded June 7 at HistoryMiami during the Community Grants reception. During the past 49 years, more than 100 donors have created funds with The Miami Foundation to support these important causes that guide the Community Grants program.
