Baye

After many successful years of international art exhibitions, establishing her own branded boutique and getting scooped up by serious art collectors around the globe, Lizette Gary, aka Baye, is ready to make some noise in her hometown of Miami.

Baye’s modern day hieroglyphics can be seen on canvases, walls, furniture, fashion, books, and accessories. Some of them are on display at the Williams McCall Gallery, 110 Washington Ave. in Miami Beach.

All Baye’s masterpieces are designed intentionally to enlighten people worldwide. In Swahili, Baye means Strength Within the Soul.

Baye is of Bahamian (mother) and Geechee (father) descent. She has an 18-year-old daughter, Yani Nakumbe, and a 5-year-old son, Amurru Z’marai.

Baye is a self born artist (witnessed by her family). She sold her first painting at age 9. She has been winning awards and contests since 1985 from the NAACP.

Baye is an alumnus of Design & Architecture Senior High (DASH) in Miami. She won a scholarship from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, in 1996. In 1994, Baye was the only student from DASH that was selected as the model designer for the Miami Design District by Anna Bucchelli’s Interior Design company. She also was one of two selected as an intern graphic designer for the Miami Herald in 1995 while attending DASH.

Baye opened her first shop in Italy called Baye Art Boutique. She had the honor of being named the “Most Interesting Foreign Artist” in 2003, in memory of Italy’s 18th Century artist Guiseppe De’Nittis.

Baye is fluent in Italian and also speaks southern and northern dialect.

She has completed her first full art production at Svevo Castello (castle) in Italy and was recognized as “Most Interesting Black Independent Female Artist.”

Baye is a poet, songwriter and a vocalist in Italy where she released her first underground single called Imagine Me and Ransom Noise.

Baye also taught arts and crafts to children at Feinberg Fisher School in South Beach and taught English at Westminster College in Italy.
