Michael Barone, host and executive producer of American Public Media’s radio program Pipedreams, was the featured guest at Classical South Florida’s evening reception on Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Steinway Gallery in Coral Gables.

Classical South Florida airs Pipedreams, the only national weekly program featuring the music of the pipe organ, every Sunday.

Barone regaled the audience with stories from his career in classical music and public radio. Among the pipe organ fans in attendance were students participating in the Miami International Organ Competition at the Church of the Epiphany on Feb. 28. Barone served as a judge for that biennial competition for young artists.

Barone has been involved with the pipe organ for more than 50 years, including more than 30 years with Pipedreams. He has been awarded the American Guild of Organists President’s Award, the Distinguished Service Award of the Organ Historical Society, the ASCAP-Deems Taylor Award and induction to the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame.

Classical South Florida is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) public radio organization dedicated to broadcasting classical music. Its program service can be heard on WKCP 89.7 FM in the Upper Keys, Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
