More summertime fun in August with Dade Heritage Trust activities

There still is time to enjoy summer with activities hosted during August by the Dade Heritage Trust.

Baking in Historic Places — Saturday, Aug. 3, 9:30 a.m. — On Saturday, Aug. 3, Dade Heritage Trust will be headed to the Fruit and Spice Park in the Redland to bake some French pastries using fruits from the park. Baking events, led by resident baker Lucia Meneses, include a continental breakfast, all the ingredients, complete instructions and a tour of the park. Events sell out quickly.

Biltmore Hotel Tours — Sunday, Aug. 4, 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.(repeats Aug. 11, 18 and 25) — Join docents from Dade Heritage Trust to tour the National Landmark Biltmore Hotel, 1200 Anastasia Ave., Coral Gables. The one hour, free, guided tours highlight the architecture, history and culture of the beautiful hotel. Tours are free. Meet your guide in the main lobby. See dadeheritagetrust.org for more info.

Bike the Bluff —Aug. 11, Urban Miami Bike Tour, 10 a.m. —

Silver Bluff is a Miami neighborhood you know but didn’t realize it was called Silver Bluff. Close to Coconut Grove, Little Havana, Shenandoah and the Roads, Silver Bluff features shady streets and lovely homes – perfect for a Sunday morning ride. Dade Heritage Trust 2019 Summertime Talks — Brickell’s Millionaire Row

Aug. 24, 3 p.m. — This summer, escape the heat on a Saturday at Dade Heritage Trust’s lovely historic headquarters and learn about the Brickell area with local historian Casey Piket. Dade Heritage Trust provides refreshments and a cool setting to learn about Miami’s hottest neighborhood. Admission includes drinks and light bites. On display at DHT now through the end of August is “Learn About Where You Live Shenandoah.” The photographic exhibit at Dade Heritage Trust’s headquarters features historic and contemporary images by renowned architectural photographer Steven Brooke, and explores one of Miami’s most lovely and historic urban neighborhoods, Shenandoah.
