Mosaic Miami recently honored seven Silver Medallion honorees at its 90th anniversary Humanitarian Dinner, a milestone evening honoring extraordinary leaders whose compassion, vision, and dedication have helped shape, and are continuously shaping, Miami’s community for the better.

This year’s distinguished honorees include:
Education: Madeline Pumariega, the first female president of Miami Dade College, recognized for her historic leadership and unwavering commitment to educational access, workforce development, and student success. A trailblazer in higher education, President Pumariega has transformed MDC into a national model for innovation.

Legal, Real Estate, Arts Advocacy: Richard Milstein, attorney, civic leader, and arts advocate, honored for his tireless work on behalf of children, vulnerable communities, and the cultural life of Miami. His decades of service include leadership roles supporting the arts, including his chairmanship of the Adrienne Arsht Center Trust Board and deep involvement with numerous local arts institutions.

Interfaith, Social Justice, Health Equity: Shabbir Motorwala, a respected interfaith leader, philanthropist, and humanitarian, celebrated for his decades of service fostering understanding, compassion, and unity across religious and cultural lines. As a founding member of Miami-Dade’s Interfaith Advisory Board, longtime leader in the Muslim Communities Association of South Florida, and advocate with organizations like Emgage and the Islamic Center of Greater Miami, he has built enduring bridges between diverse communities and championed justice, food security, and refugee support across the region.

Legal, Civic Rights, Arts Advocacy: Vivian and Alan Dimond, lifelong civic leaders and philanthropists, honored for their decades of impact across Miami’s legal, educational, and cultural institutions. Alan, a respected attorney and past president of The Florida Bar, has been a champion for civil rights and public service, while Vivian has been a driving force in arts and education advocacy. Together, they have shaped and supported countless organizations dedicated to making Miami a better place for all.

Interfaith, Catholic, Education: Father Guillermo “Wille” García-Tuñón, received the Clergy Silver Medallion, President of Belen Jesuit Preparatory School, in recognition of his profound impact on youth, faith, and education.

Black History, Justice Advocate: Dr. Marvin Dunn, received the Robert H. Traurig Lifetime Achievement Award, Professor Emeritus at Florida International University, historian, and civil rights advocate. Dr. Dunn’s enduring commitment to truth, justice, and historical preservation continues to inspire generations.

“As we celebrate 90 years of bridge-building, justice work, and interfaith understanding, we are honored to recognize these individuals whose lives exemplify Mosaic Miami’s mission.

This event is not only a tribute to our past — it’s a powerful affirmation of the promising and forward-looking future we are working to build,” said Matthew S. Anderson, executive director of Mosaic Miami.

The 90th Silver Medallion Humanitarian Dinner took place on May 18 at the Donna Shalala Student Center Complex at the University of Miami, with nearly 400 guests in attendance.
