Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava recently announced that Eulois Cleckley will join Miami-Dade County as the new director and CEO of the Department of Transportation and Public Works.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Eulois to this critical role leading our county’s Transportation and Public Works Department,” Mayor Levine Cava said. “He’s a forward-thinking leader who led the integration of transportation and infrastructure in Denver, driving forward the city’s efforts to make transit more efficient, reliable, and people-friendly, and prioritizing projects for safer streets and expanded mobility options. I know he’ll help us move our transportation system forward as we work together to build a better-connected Miami-Dade and help our residents move more efficiently and reliably.”
Cleckley joins the county from the city and county of Denver where he serves as the executive director of the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI), overseeing 1,300 DOTI employees, a $340 million annual budget, and a $1.2 billion capital program. He led the creation of DOTI, and as executive director, he runs one of the city’s largest and most dynamic departments focused on modernizing Denver’s transportation system, constructing public facilities, maintaining sanitary and sewer systems and providing solid waste removal, recycling and composting services.
Cleckley previously worked for the Houston-Galveston Area Council (HGAC) as the deputy director of the Metropolitan Planning Organization. His other experience includes serving as Chief of Statewide and Regional Planning and Chief of the Field Operations Division, for Washington, DC’s District Department of Transportation (DDOT), and in private consulting for local and state governments, and as a transportation specialist at the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT).
Cleckley currently serves as the president of the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) and he is a member of the Transportation Research Board (TRB). In June 2020, Cleckley was unanimously elected to serve as president for the Colorado Chapter of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO), a national not-for-profit organization established to provide a forum for minority professionals in the transportation industry.
Inspired by the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s 1967 speech “What is your Blueprint?,” he seeks to elevate COMTO’s platform while adding value to its members using the four inspirational pillars — Build, Organize, Learn, and Earn.
Cleckley has transportation and economics degrees from North Carolina A&T State University and a Global Logistics Specialist Professional Designation from California State University.
