Miguel Luciano is an actor, teacher, and director in Miami. Young audiences might know him from his lead role on the Nickelodeon series Talia in the Kitchen that is still being aired around the world.
His television resume also includes several national and international commercials and other film/TV credits.
As a teacher and director, Luciano has directed and taught in Miami and New York for 15 years and has private acting students who have gone on to Broadway, TV, and film.
Luciano’s teaching/directing credits range from local children’s theater to master classes at various magnet schools, and volunteering his time at the South Miami K8 Center theater magnet program for 10 years.
Theatrically, he has performed in professional theater since the age of 11 and is making his return to the stage in the timely and classic musical, Cabaret, which will run at the Manuel Artime Theater from Jan. 6 to 15, 2023.
Set in a seedy nightclub at the start of World War II, Cabaret showcases how the provocative, emerging culture of sexuality and personal freedom clashes with the impeding antisemitic genocide that is about to invade Europe.
Luciano believes this production is more timely than ever and as the lead actor of the show (in the iconic role of Master of Ceremonies originated by Joel Grey), he tackles the show’s issues center stage. The mysterious and intriguing role of Master of Ceremonies plays as a theatrical device, mirroring society and all of its blemishes. The character encompasses and reveals Germany at that time — the good, bad, and the sexy.
Luciano credits the amazing team who are making this production possible.
“Under the keen direction of Benjamin Leon IV, the radiant choreography by Ana Montoya, and the strong music direction by Ryan Crout, the cast and I are exploring this classic piece in a fresh way. It’s a daunting task to tell this powerful story but we are confident our interpretation will honor its legacy.”
Miguel feels that society today is once again experiencing a generational reckoning of gender identity, sexual orientation, and preferences. Due to his close connection with the theater community, which has been a refuge for LGBTQ+ students, Miguel navigates his understanding and awareness of the particular needs of the community and ties it into the musical’s themes of sexual freedom.
With the rise in antisemitic attacks and this generation’s newfound exploration of sexuality and identity, Cabaret proves that that everything old is new again.
Cabaret, produced by Loxen Productions, runs Jan. 6-15 at the Manuel Artime Theater, 900 SW First St., Miami.
Show times are: Jan. 6, 8 p.m.; Jan. 7, 2 and 8 p.m.; Jan. 8, 8 p.m.; Jan. 13, 8 p.m.; Jan. 14, 2 and 8 p.m., and Jan. 15, 8 p.m.
