Nine-Mile Music Festival coming to Bayfront Park

By Woody Graber….
Bob Marley Movement presents the 18th annual Nine-Mile Music Festival and Food Drive on Saturday, Mar. 12, at Bayfront Park, 301 N. Biscayne Blvd. in Downtown Miami. Gates open at 1 p.m.

The Annual Nine-Mile Music Festival not only is an all day experience honoring the life and legend that is Bob Marley, but also a humanitarian food drive for those who would otherwise go without. This year, in the spirit of giving, canned food collected at the festival will benefit Curley’s House.

The organization’s mission is to improve the quality of life for low- to moderate-income individuals and families, elderly, youth-at-risk, abused, and HIV/AIDS infected members of the community by providing them with bulk food product. Since the festival began, it has helped to collect more than 2 million cans of food, which in turn help to spread Bob Marley’s message of peace, love and unity.

This year’s festival will feature performances by some of the top musical acts in the world as well as popular local performers: Stephen “Ragga” Marley; Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley; Julian “JuJu” Marley; Ky-Mani Marley, Slightly Stoopid, Thievery Corporation, Major Lazer, Inner Circle, Kevens, Benjah, Fourth Dimension, DJ Hatcha, Mala of Digital Mystik, Juan Basshead and MC Jumanji.

The event is hosted by Michael Winslow, star of the Police Academy movies, Lance-O of Kulcha Shok Muzik and Vanessa James. Also, there will be a special guest appearance by Gramps Morgan.

The festival is one of the most successful musical events throughout South Florida. It is an event that entices people from around the United States, Canada and the Caribbean to attend.

Advance general admission tickets are $55 (plus four cans of food) and are available online at <www.bobmarleymovement.com> as well as places such as Juney’s Restaurant, Jamaica Kitchen and Caribbean Delite Restaurant.
