Alysa Englehardt, a ninth grade piano prodigy from Coral Reef Senior High School, will be the featured performer of the South Florida Youth Symphony’s (SFYS.net) annual Student Showcase Concert, Mar. 11, in the Lou Rawls Auditorium at Florida Memorial University, 15800 NW 42 Ave.

The concert, which will feature all of the SFYS training orchestras, beginning classes plus highlight’s from the Youth Symphony’s Feb. 25 Carnegie Hall performance, begins at 4 p.m.

Englehardt, who is attending the International Baccalaureate program at Coral Reef, will be the featured soloist of the day’s performance.

The 15-year-old, who began piano lessons at age 5, has performed in numerous piano recitals, musicals and choral presentations.

“Our audience will be treated to a wide range of performances, from our beginning classes through the Youth Symphony,” said SFYS executive director Marjorie Hahn. “In addition, Alysa’s piano solo will delight the attendees. She is simply fantastic.”

Englehardt is a multi-talented musician, who also plays the violin and has composed several piano pieces. At age 10, her composition, Garden of Secrets, won the Distinguished Award at the Yamaha Junior Original Concert, and was selected for the National JOC performance in New Jersey in 2013. She has received awards from the Miami Music Teachers Association (MMTA) and the Florida Federation of Music Clubs and placed first in the composition contests organized by the MMTA.

Englehardt’s on-stage performances included acting roles in the musical Annie, and in the Florida Grand Opera performance of La Boheme at the Adrienne Arsht Center.

Now in its 53rd year of training young musicians, the South Florida Youth Symphony is considered one of America’s premier youth music organizations.

In addition to the musical entertainment, concert-goers will have the opportunity to participate in a fundraising raffle for tickets to a Miami Marlins game. Tickets for the four-seat package are $10 each or $15 for two tickets.

Tickets to the Student Showcase Concert are $10 and are available by calling 305-238-2729.
