In 1988, a young Miami Beach native named Tibor Torok began working for Bob Hilson, a pioneer in Miami’s roofing industry who launched Bob Hilson  & Company in 1979. Since then, Hilson Roofing, as the company is now known, has become one of the leaders of Miami-Dade’s roofing industry, employing 35 South Floridians today.

Today, Tibor owns Hilson Roofing along with his partner Mick Cronje, a native of South Africa and longtime company employee.

“What makes Hilson Roofing different and special is that we don’t cut corners and the people of Miami know that. Our goal is to provide the best roof we can at an affordable cost and that’s exactly what we do. It’s the way that Bob Hilson taught me to do it,” says Tibor.

Today, Hilson Roofing operates from Homestead, where the company relocated after Hurricane Andrew. In the aftermath of that catastrophic storm, Hilson Roofing was instrumental in contributing to the rebuilding of  South Miami-Dade County. Today, Hilson Roofing services residential and commercial properties throughout Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.

Tibor is president of the Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association, a 1,000-member-strong trade organization dedicated to the professional and ethical business practices involved in Florida’s roofing  industry.

One of the aspects that contributes to the longevity and success of Hilson Roofing is the versatility of the company’s offerings. From the smallest roof  repair to a complete re-roofing of a large commercial building, Hilson Roofing is up to the task. The company is also an approved federal  contractor and has provided roofing services to the United States Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard, as well as the National Park Service.

Among the services provided by Hilson Roofing include roof repair and replacement, cleaning and inspections, application of coatings and new roof construction. Financing is also available through the company.

The process simply involves calling Hilson Roofing for a free estimate and  question/answer session. An estimate is prepared and, if accepted, a 10- percent deposit is collected. Once a county permit is pulled, work starts  immediately. Tibor says that roof shingles cost about six to seven dollars  per square foot. Tiles cost a bit more at $10-15 per square foot and metal is most expensive at $12-16 per square foot.
