Historic Hampton House is presenting a group exhibition exploring generative acts of refusal through the work of 25 contemporary artists. Building upon the legacy of Historic Hampton House, a Green Book hotel during the height of segregation, the presentation highlights works responding to oppression, resistance, and obedience.
“No Room. No Vacancy.” is co-curated by Madeleine Haddon, Serubiri Moses and K.O. Nnamdie, and is on view through Feb. 28, 2026.
Concurrently, Historic Hampton House will present two installations, including Civilisation ou Barbarie, which features eight new, mixed media works by Alexandre Diop, whose practice interrogates themes of ancestry, beauty, violence, and social transformation, and What Remains…, a large-scale mixed-media installation by Julie Levesque that retrieves and examines a pivotal moment from the artist’s time in grade school, reclaiming her agency to stand up for her thoughts.
Historic Hampton House honored Beth Rudin DeWoody at its VIP opening dinner for her early and steadfast commitment to the institution and the advancement of its mission.
DeWoody and her team of Maynard Monrow and Laura Dvorkin and curator Zoe Lukov has provided unparalleled support to Historic Hamptons House’s exhibitions through its curatorial leadership, loans of works from her collection, and partnerships with other artists, galleries and collectors.
“We are deeply honored to be presenting a thought-provoking, contemporary group show with Art Basel for the third consecutive year, as this relationship helps us foster awareness for our program and larger purpose to use art and culture to bridge divides,” said Curb Gardner, CEO and executive director, Historic Hampton House.
