South Florida PBS (WPBT, WXEL, and Health Channel) is excited to unveil a dynamic lineup of programming and events this October. From stepping back in time with our newest immersive experience, to celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and raising awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, South Florida PBS invites audiences to explore, learn, and connect through meaningful content.
IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE:
This month, South Florida PBS proudly presents Egyptian Pharaohs: From Cheops to Ramses II, our second immersive experience, following the sold-out success of the Da Vinci Immersive Experience at our flagship studios in Boynton Beach.
Visitors will journey into the fascinating world of Ancient Egypt, where the stories of the pharaohs come to life through breathtaking visuals and cutting-edge immersive technology.

PROGRAMMING HIGHLIGHTS:
To complement the Egyptian Pharaohs Immersive Experience, October features a rich selection of themed programming, including:
- Rick Steves Egypt: Yesterday & Tomorrow – Join Rick Steves as he explores Egypt’s cultural treasures, from the Sphinx to Alexandria’s bustling backstreets,
and sails the Nile on a traditional felucca. (Airing Saturday, October 4th at 9PM on WPBT).
- Secrets of the Dead: Egypt’s Darkest Hour – Follow a team of archaeologists as they investigate a rare mass grave dating back to the collapse of Egypt’s Old Kingdom. (Airing Saturday, October 4th at 10PM on WPBT).
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, South Florida PBS proudly showcases stories that celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of the Latino community. Highlights include:
- Finding Your Roots: Latin Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. (Airing Tuesday, October 2nd at 2PM on WPBT and Monday, October 6th at 8PM on WXEL).
- American Experience – Julia Alvarez: A Life Reimagined featuring the celebrated Dominican-American poet and author. (Airing Friday, October 3rd at 10PM on WPBT and Sunday, October 5th at 1PM on WXEL).
- Pati’s Mexican Table – A lively culinary adventure exploring the flavors and traditions of Mexico. (Saturdays at 3:30PM on WPBT and Saturdays at 11:30AM on WXEL)
Additional programming spans a wide variety of genres, including nature, science, travel, and public health. Must-watch features include The American Buffalo, Walrus: Life on Thin Ice, and Rick Steves’ Europe – Season 13.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:
South Florida PBS continues to bring people together through events that inspire and inform.
- Join KidVision and Miss Penny at NSU’s A Day for Children – Sunday, October 19, 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at NSU Alvin Sherman Library in Fort Lauderdale. Families can learn about free and low-cost health and wellness services for children from birth to age 16.

KIDS & EDUCATION:
This October, families can enjoy a lineup of fun and educational Halloween-themed specials including The Cat in the Hat, Arthur, and Wild Kratts: Creepy Creatures. Each program delivers engaging content with a seasonal twist.

HEALTH CHANNEL HIGHLIGHTS:
The Health Channel continues its mission of empowering viewers with trusted health information and wellness resources.
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Health Channel encourages viewers to take an active role in their health by performing regular self-breast exams.
October also brings two important Health Channel Town Halls:
- Medicare: The Big Changes That Affect You – Monday, October 6 at 7:00 p.m.
- Beyond the Diagnosis: Living Longer With Breast Cancer – Monday, October 20 at 7:00 p.m.
