VIPs including the City of North Miami mayor Philippe Bien-Aime, NoMi CRA’s Rasha Soray-Cameau, real estate developer Sebastien Sclema and artists Mario Velez and Juan Meia joined Miami Art Week goers for the official opening of Copper Gallery in the Magic City’s newest emergent arts district: NoMi. Hosted by art developer Geo Darder, who recently purchased three properties in NoMi to create Copper Arts Hub, the reception featured the work of Cuban artists Noel Morera and Ricardo Diéguez.  Morera’s paintings and sculptures were featured inside the gallery in a show called “Cuando la verdad te contradice”/“When the truth contradicts you”. Diéguez’s 12’ by 20 site-specific mural was unveiled outside with a live ceremony featuring an Afro-Caribbean drum and dance performance.

“The unveiling of Ricardo Dieguez’s mural, at the opening of Copper Gallery during Miami Art Week, marks the beginning of the CRA’s unique muralscape program created to revitalize the NoMi community through the power of art,” says Rasha Soray-Cameau, Executive Director of North Miami CRA.

Located at 12495 NE 8th Avenue, North Miami, FL 33161, across from MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art), Copper Gallery features the work of Latin American and Caribbean artists.  The gallery, which is open by appointment, is part of the Copper Arts Hub which was designed to bring artists together from all over the world to promote diversity and dialogue through the arts while contributing to the growing arts district in NoMi.  The  hub also encompasses nearby Casa Fe, an artist incubator and modern cultural space where everyone feels at home,  as well as a sculptural garden, parking lot and the Copperbridge Building, an educational center with artists in residence and the headquarters for Copperbridge Foundation.
