Maestro Elaine Rinaldi leads Orchestra Miami during a recent performance.

Orchestra Miami has announced the addition of a new series to its free concert schedule. Dubbed “The Downtowner Series,” it’s a collaboration with the support of the First United Methodist Church of Miami with a concert slated for May 19 at 2 p.m.

“The idea behind this intimate series was to pair the outstanding musicians of Orchestra Miami with local professional opera singers to present intimate concerts of a broad range of styles,” said Elaine Rinaldi, artistic director of Orchestra Miami.

The concert on May 19 is “Cabaret” and will feature cabaret music by classical composers such as Benjamin Britten, William Bolcolm, Kurt Weill, and more. A featured piece on the program will be the spectacular Café Music by Paul Schoenfeld, featuring Karen Lord-Powell, violinist; Aaron Merritt, cellist, and Elaine Rinaldi, piano.

These concerts are free with donations greatly appreciated. Space is limited, so guests are asked to make a reservation online at www.OrchestraMiami.org.
