Members of the staff at OrthoNOW were on hand to provide medical services during the City Bikes Ironman 70.3 Miami.

OrthoNOW, the nation’s only orthopedic urgent care franchise and the Official Sports Medicine Provider for City Bikes Ironman 70.3 Miami, welcomed international and local athletes to the event on Sunday, Oct. 22, at Bayfront Park.

A team of sports medicine experts from several OrthoNOW centers led this year’s medical staff, which included members from OrthoNOW Physical Therapy Center, Badia Hand to Shoulder Center, The Surgery Center at Doral, Athletix Physical Therapy and residents from Jackson Memorial Hospital. Together, the team worked in a fully functioning medical tent and treated approximately 100 athletes who suffered from dehydration, lacerations and severe cramping in the hamstrings and lumbar region amongst other conditions.

“I am very proud of the excellent medical care that was provided to the athletes on race-day; the staff came extremely well prepared with all the tools necessary to treat injuries and pains,” said Dr. Alejandro Badia, founder and chief medical officer of OrthoNOW. “Neuro muscular therapy and physical therapy were critical for the care of the athletes. Even Ellie Salthouse, who reclaimed her title this year after being sidelined for five months due to an injury, had physical therapy post race.”

Igor Amorelli from Brazil was the first triathlete to cross the finish line and won the male title. Meanwhile, Salthouse from Australia reclaimed her title making her a two-time City Bikes Ironman 70.3 Miami winner. The two athletes completed the triathlon in 3:59:43 and 4:24:59 respectively.
