Vizcaya Museum and Gardens and The Vizcayans recently hosted the sixth annual Preservation Luncheon, widely known as the “Hat Luncheon.” The event brought together a cross section of Miami’s social and philanthropic leaders donned in creative headwear, and more than 300 attended in support of the National Historic Landmark.

Following a late morning cocktail reception in the formal gardens, the event continued with an elegant seated lunch on the East Terrace overlooking Biscayne Bay in the Courtyard of Vizcaya’s Main House. The lunch was presented by Thierry’s Catering and Events Design, and linens were provide by A Touch of Class Linen.

A fashion presentation of Mayda Cisneros’ Spring/Summer couture collection and Prosecco, donated by Bacardi, set a convivial tone.

A new element to the event this year was a friendly hat contest. Winners included: First Place “Best All-Around,” Marile Lopez; “Most Fashion-Forward,” Bianca Kannars, and the “Most Creative,” Diane Sepler. First place prize was generously donated by Maurice’s Jewelers.

This year’s generous sponsors include longtime Vizcaya supporters Cathy L. Jones, Africair, and M. Victoria Cummock. The event’s co-chairs were M. Victoria Cummock, Swanee DiMare, Sonia Gibson, Laura Munilla and James Murphy. Jo Malone provided a special gift to all guests, and Paolo Costagli, Chanel, Bloomingdales and Michael Kors generously provided raffle donations.

Built by businessman James Deering nearly 100 years ago, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a National Historic Landmark featuring a Main House, 10 acres of formal gardens, a hardwood hammock and a historic village. Located at 3251 S. Miami Ave., Vizcaya is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except Tuesdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
