Employment opportunities in the finance field have grown steadily in recent years. In 2023, job opportunities related to finance increased by 19,700 in Florida according to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity with nearly 4,900 of these jobs added in the Miami area in January 2023.
OYC Miami, a leading comprehensive service provider for youth, families and adults, has partnered with UnidosUS (formerly the National Council of La Raza), the nation’s largest Latino civil rights and advocacy organization, to bring an industry‐recognized curriculum, Latinos in Finance, and training to our community.
UnidosUS’s Latinos in Finance program is a bilingual banker training program launched in 2015. OYC Miami was selected to be part of the Latinos in Finance Program in 2021 and has since been guiding Latinx jobseekers interested in the banking industry to get a job at local banks and credit unions.
During the six-week, part‐time program, participants will learn about personal finance, job readiness, customer service and communication skills, and banking sector essentials. In addition, participants receive coaching and assistance with resume and interview preparation, are invited to participate in networking and pre-screening events with potential employers and receive assistance in the job application process. Through these workshops and hands-on experiences, participants gain a comprehensive understanding of the finance industry and the skills needed to succeed in this competitive field.
“We are thrilled to partner with UnidosUS to bring the Latinos in Finance program to Miami,” said Tina Brown, OYC Miami CEO. “This program aligns perfectly with our mission of empowering and transforming the lives of persons in our community with a strategic focus on programs to advance economic upward mobility for adults and families who are navigating some very economically challenging times.”
In order to be eligible for this program, participants should be 18 years of age or older, have a high school diploma or GED, have 6-plus months experience in customer service and/or sales, have no prior felony convictions, and be eligible to work in the U.S. Bi-lingual candidates are preferred with fluency in English and Spanish.
