Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) will present Zoë Buckman: Show You Me Your Bruises, Then, on view from Oct. 1 until May 16, 2027.

The exhibition marks the British, Jewish multidisciplinary artist’s first museum solo exhibition and takes its name from a poem and video installation of the same title, showcased for the first time in its entirety.

The exhibition spotlights Show Me Your Bruises, Then (2021-22), a three-channel video installation written, performed, and directed by Buckman featuring the artist alongside actors Cush Jumbo and Sienna Miller. The 17-minute video performance is based on the artist’s free-flowing poem of the same name and builds a portrait of the multigenerational experience of bleeding, bruising, power, and domestic violence, exploring the shame and stigma prescribed to the female body.

The film depicts three women, each seated at the end of a wooden table, reciting the poem that Buckman began in 2018. While excerpts of the text have previously appeared in artwork titles and embroidery pieces, a few of which also will be on view in the galleries, this installation of Show Me Your Bruises, Then at PAMM features the full recitation of the poem for the first time. The video’s rhythmic pattern and three-channel structure reinforces the notion of the power in sharing one’s voice and story.

This collection of work is emblematic of Buckman’s commitment to addressing important social issues and fostering nuanced conversations around consent, power, and violence. Globally, an estimated one in three women suffers from violence at the hands of an intimate partner.

Show Me Your Bruises, Then examines how this pattern can echo within families for generations, creating a harmful cycle that is often overlooked. Buckman’s work serves to generate increasing public awareness of a dangerous epidemic.

Zoë Buckman: Show You Me Your Bruises, Then is organized by PAMM associate curator Maritza M. Lacayo. Ongoing support for PAMM’s project galleries from Knight Foundation is gratefully acknowledged.
