Pelican Harbor Seabird Station (PHSS), a cornerstone in wildlife rehabilitation and conservation in Miami, has announced the appointment of Chloe Chelz as its new executive director.
Chelz, a Miami resident for over 15 years, brings an understanding of the local community, a deep appreciation of wildlife and nature, and a strong dedication to PHSS’s mission and vision.
Having previously served as assistant director of the organization, Chelz has been instrumental in PHSS’s operations for the past three years and has capably fulfilled the role of acting executive director since January. Her sustained leadership has been pivotal during the organization’s transitional period of growth, particularly in advancing the ongoing construction of the non-profit’s expanded wildlife hospital and educational center.
“On behalf of my vice chair Marcus McCarthy and the entire board, I am thrilled to congratulate Chloe Chelz on her well-deserved appointment to executive director,” said board chair Robert Glidewell. “Chloe’s exceptional leadership and dedication have already made a significant impact, and we are confident that her vision will continue to drive our mission forward.”
Upon accepting the appointment, Chelz said, “I am deeply honored to assume the role of executive director at PHSS. This organization, with its deep roots in Miami, has a very bright future as we evolve and expand our services and outreach. I am committed to working closely with our board and to leading our dedicated team in making a lasting impact. Together, we will continue to provide the highest level of care for our patients while nurturing meaningful connections between the public and our native wildlife.”
Chelz’s appointment comes at a critical time for PHSS as it positions itself to enhance its impact and outreach within the Miami community via its new 8,000-square-foot wildlife hospital and education center, slated to open in late 2025. The non-profit was founded in 1980 and currently treats over 2,000 patients a year of more than 150 species. With a wealth of experience and a clear vision for the future, Chelz is poised to lead PHSS into its next chapter of growth and excellence in wildlife conservation.
