Pelican Harbor Seabird Station, Miami’s native wildlife center, is soaring to new heights with the addition of three passionate wildlife champions to its board of directors. New to the board are David Wallack, CEO of Mango’s Tropical Café; Dr. Gwen Myers, chief of Animal Health at Zoo Miami, and Local10 news anchor and animal advocate Jacey Birch.
With a diverse set of talents, each new member brings with them a unique perspective and utility. Wallack, a long-time supporter and well-known Miami Beach businessman and philanthropist, brings his business acumen and connections to the table, while Myers, one of the most respected wildlife veterinarians in Florida, offers a wealth of expertise and knowledge on wildlife medicine and the latest science to PHSS. Lastly, Birch, a fellow longtime supporter, emcee of recent Pelican Parties, and Local10’s Animal Advocate for more than a decade, will amplify our voice for the animals and assist the team with communications and marketing.
“Having worked with wildlife in a zoological setting for most of my career, I am delighted to be joining the board to serve our native wildlife and the community in this new capacity,” Dr. Myers remarked.
Additionally, former board member Robert Glidewell has stepped into the role of chair of the board. Glidewell has been a dedicated board member for three years, as well as an instrumental member of the Capital Campaign committee. A 20-year resident of South Florida, he is president of Glidewell Consulting Inc., which provides government relations services in the Washington, DC, area. He also owns Glidewell Aviation Inc., a company that supplies aircraft to institutions that provide flight training and charter operations. His leadership and governance skills will further accelerate PHSS as we continue to grow and begin construction on our new facility.
“We are thrilled to be welcoming these three environmental advocates to our board. Their professional expertise and diverse knowledge base will be of immeasurable value as we continue to grow both as an organization and a community,” Glidewell said.
