Pepsico, the presenting sponsor of Miami Bridge’s second annual luncheon, honored the organization with a $10,000 donation on Oct. 25 in support of the nonprofit’s enormous efforts to save at-risk youth from a life of victimization and homelessness.
The event featured a catered reception, raffle prizes from The Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables and Sea World in Orlando, and an opportunity to network. Attendees also heard stirring, life-changing testimonials from Miami Bridge alumni. Entertainment included contemporary African-influenced choreography, along with singing from talented youth assisted by the organization.
Pepsico’s generous donation, along with additional funds raised at the event, benefited the organization’s programs and services that promote positive youth development, strengthen and support families in need, and enable children and teenagers to actualize their full potential to become productive members of their community.
The organization also honored its 2018 Judy Reinach Award Recipient, Candace Borja, for going above and beyond through funding and time spent to provide for Miami Bridge’s youth. The winners of the Social Impact Partner of the Year Award were the young sisters Taliyah and Tiahna Judith Williams.
“Once a year the board of directors, management, staff, and youth pause to pay tribute to our partners in the community. Thanks to their generosity—we are able to provide 10,000 care days to kids and teens,” said Dr. Dorcas Wilcox, CEO of Miami Bridge Youth and Family Services. “Our annual luncheon is our way of saying ‘thank you’ and letting our supporters know how much we appreciate the impact their donations make.”
Miami Bridge Youth and Family Services continues to grow each year. Established in 1985 to tackle local child homelessness, the organization continues its mission to provide a safe and loving temporary home for over 400 teens in South Florida. In addition, Miami Bridge’s non-residential/community behavioral services help local families, at-risk LGBTQ youth, and even truant students in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools system by making free counseling, case management and mentoring services readily available to them.
