PJ’s, pampering and a movie made for a crazy fun night at the GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club (CGWC) and raised funds for Hacienda Girls Ranch while providing a chance for members and guests to enjoy a relaxing night.

Arbonne representatives came to donate foot therapy and facials; the club and its members provided food and drinks, and past president Mireya Kilmon got approval to show Love and Contempt, a movie in which she had the lead role and was nominated for Best Actress.

This was the first of several events filling the CGWC summer calendar. A July planning workshop with board members and chairs was held following a high tea at the Biltmore Hotel, which served to celebrate birthdays of president Debi Van Stone Moore and past president Linda Hartwell.

Donning their favorite hats, the ladies enjoyed yummy tea sandwiches and dessert before getting down to work with plans on of which included an open house for the club’s free children’s dental clinic with Break Out Miami held on June 25 and a wine glass painting mini-fundraiser for the club’s free children’s dental clinic on Wednesday, July 20, 7 p.m., followed by a bowling night on July 25.

In other good news: on Thursday, June 16, all South Florida Cabo Flats locations helped to raise funds to assist the victims affected by the Orlando attack and their families by donating 10 percent of all sales through their Cabo Cares Fundraising program. Restaurant guests enjoyed live entertainment and Mexican bites throughout the night helping raise a total of $3,115.68 for victim relief.

July 4 saw great celebrations all over town, including the Gables Rotarians annual July 4 picnic at Matheson Hammock Park that included ribs and more. As an added surprise, Annette Alvarez of Global Ties invited more than a dozen professionals in Miami attending a six-week course at FIU. The guests came from all over Africa and included some doctors, a lawyer, and even a man who works for the United Nations.

All had fun playing volleyball, badminton and even several water balloons tosses, all orchestrated by past president Greg Martini and wife, Nancy. Yet another past president, Sally Baumgartner, coordinated the food and drinks.

Until next time, keep making each day count.
