The 2016 model year brings a few new updates to the already popular Fiat 500.
The new Fiat has a better infotainment system with optional navigation system, a more modern dashboard and several trims from which to choose. Of course, this little ride still provides great mileage. Additionally, this year’s Fiat 500 flaunts its signature fun look with a sleeker spin in either a convertible or hatchback option.
This little car has certainly taken the U.S. by storm and, while riding the 2016 Fiat 500, it’s easy to see why. It’s compact size is perfect for riding through the city, especially when switching in between lanes or trying to fit in tight parking spots.
However, the best aspect of the 2016 Fiat 500 is the bang you get for your buck. For an affordable price, the 2016 Fiat 500 offers style, great mileage and several features, trims and options.
The base Pop trim’s standard features include some of the following: a five-inch infotainment system with optional navigation system in lieu of the TomTom portable dashboard system, voice controls, heated mirrors, leather wrapped steering wheel, Bluetooth for phone and audio connectivity, wireless phone charging, six-speaker sound system, and the Uconnect system provided by Fiat.
The interior is comfortably laid out with clear, easily accessible controls. The front row is surprisingly roomy and comfortably seats driver and passenger. While the 500 does have back row seating, it is extremely limited and best reserved for extra cargo space or for riding in for short distances.
Other trims in the hatchback style are the Easy, Sport, Turbo, Lounge, and Abarth. The trim-topping Abarth adds an Alpine stereo system, 16-inch wheels, as opposed to the standard 15-inch, interior and exterior styling tweaks, a seven-inch infotainment system and a suspension system geared to provide a sportier performance.
As for the 2016 Fiat 500’s performance, its best feature is the mileage you get out of it. Lest you opt for the Turbo or Abarth trim, the 500 is not a particularly sporty or fast ride. These two trims come with a 135-hp engine that takes the 500 up a few notches. Otherwise, the entry level 500 gets a 101-hp 1.4-liter engine that would appeal to a more conventional or conservative driver who wouldn’t mind a slower acceleration. But, with a mileage of 31 mpg city and 40 mpg highway, who’s going to complain?
It’s clear why the Italian-born Fiat 500 has been such a well-received compact car here in the states. With its loveable, fun aesthetic, great mileage and convenient size, the Fiat 500 can suit the needs of many without having to break the bank.
