PortMiami, the “Cruise Capital of the World,” welcomed a record-breaking 10 cruise ships, docked at the seaport, on Feb. 8.

The 10 cruise ships were : Carnival Cruise Line Carnival Magic, Carnival Cruise Line Carnival Sunrise, Holland America Zaandam, MSC Cruises MSC Seascape, Norwegian Cruise Line Norwegian Escape, Norwegian Cruise Line Norwegian Gem, Oceania Cruises Sirena, Royal Caribbean International Icon of the Seas, Royal Caribbean International Independence of the Seas, and Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady. Close to 68,000 passengers were expected to be onboard the cruise ships.

“It is no surprise PortMiami and the cruise industry continue to break records,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “PortMiami is the departure choice for all major cruise lines. As a destination, Miami-Dade is undoubtedly the center of world cruise tourism with incredible weather, culture and unlimited options for exciting experiences.”

The 2025 season is filled with new cruise ships. Among the lineup of ships are Cunard Queen Anne (January), MSC Cruises MSC World America (April), Norwegian Cruise Line Norwegian Aqua (April), Royal Caribbean International Wonder of the Seas (August), Cunard Queen Elizabeth (October), Virgin Voyages Brilliant Lady (October), and Oceania Cruises Allura (November).

Another historic milestone which recently took place was the June 17, 2024 launch of the of shore power. Shore power allows cruise ships to turn off their engines and plug into landside electrical power while docked, resulting in reduced emissions and noise. A partnership among Miami-Dade County, Carnival Corporation, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, Royal Caribbean Group, Virgin Voyages, and Florida Power & Light Company, PortMiami is the first major cruise port on the U.S. Eastern Seaboard that will offer shore power capability at five cruise berths.

PortMiami is recognized as the “Cruise Capital of the World” and “Cargo Gateway of the Americas.” The port is among Miami-Dade County’s largest economic engines contributing $61 billion annually to the local economy and supporting more than 340,000 jobs.
