Project DYNAMO is preparing to deploy a team of U.S. military veterans and first responders with search-and-rescue experience to Jamaica in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 storm with sustained winds of 175 mph, which is expected to make landfall around 8 a.m. Tuesday.
The team plans to depart for Jamaica as soon as it is safe to do so, bringing relief supplies, medical supplies and personnel to assist with rescue efforts amid expected widespread destruction, including roadways that are anticipated to be destroyed or washed away.
Project DYNAMO already has personnel on the ground near Black River, which is expected to be near ground zero for the hurricane’s impact.
The deployment, which has been named Operation Cool Runnings, builds on Project DYNAMO’s track record of rapid response to conflict zones and disaster areas. Since its founding in 2021, the organization has conducted high-impact missions in Afghanistan, Israel, Ukraine, Haiti, Maui, North Carolina, Southwest Florida and other regions, rescuing thousands from war zones, natural disasters and flooded areas.
Those in need of assistance, or loved ones of those in need, are urged to fill out a request form at projectdynamo.net/global-
