Jim Mooney has been a steadfast leader and dedicated advocate for the Florida Keys and District 120. Having lived in the Keys his entire life, Jim understands the unique challenges and opportunities that come with representing this one-of-a-kind community. His long-standing commitment to public service, paired with his deep-rooted love for the region, makes him the clear choice for re-election to the Florida House of Representatives.
Jim’s extensive experience across multiple roles—schoolteacher, coach, small business owner, mayor, and city council member—has equipped him with the skills and insight necessary to address the needs of his constituents. His leadership was tested in 2017 when Hurricane Irma devastated the Keys, and as mayor of Islamorada, Jim oversaw rescue operations and coordinated rebuilding efforts in collaboration with state and federal agencies. His hands-on approach during that crisis demonstrated his ability to lead with strength, compassion, and efficiency.
As a conservative, Jim is committed to being a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars. During his first term in the Florida House, he supported Governor Ron DeSantis’ efforts to keep Florida open during the pandemic and ensure the state’s economy continued to grow. He helped pass two conservative, balanced budgets while cutting taxes and standing up for law enforcement to keep neighborhoods safe. Jim’s focus on protecting small businesses during and after the pandemic has earned him the trust and respect of local entrepreneurs.
In addition to his economic initiatives, Jim is passionate about protecting the environment—a critical issue for the Florida Keys. He has championed legislation aimed at preserving water quality and safeguarding the district’s unique ecosystem. His commitment to environmental conservation is driven not only by the need to protect the region’s economy, which relies on tourism and fishing, but also by a personal sense of responsibility to preserve these natural treasures for future generations.
Jim’s work has not gone unnoticed. He has been recognized by the Florida Chamber of Commerce, Florida Tax Watch, and earned an A+ rating from Americans for Prosperity for his conservative leadership. Serving on key committees, including the Appropriations and Infrastructure Strategies Committees, Jim continues to be a leading voice for District 120 in Tallahassee.
For his proven leadership, dedication to fiscal responsibility, and commitment to preserving the environment, we proudly endorse Jim Mooney for re-election to Florida House District 120.
