Record set for longest run while deejaying live

Miami electronic artist and entrepreneur Eddy Palermo recently set a Guinness World Record after becoming the first person in history to run an ultramarathon while deejaying live. The world-first achievement saw Palermo combine two of his greatest passions, electronic music and endurance sport, in an unprecedented challenge.
On Saturday, Aug. 8, Palermo completed BPMATHON, running 46.7 kilometers (29.08 miles) while deejaying continuously for eight hours.
The challenge took place at The Underline, Miami’s 10-mile linear park and urban trail stretching from Brickell to Dadeland. A landmark public space beneath the Metrorail, The Underline has become a vibrant corridor where millions come to move, live and grow together.
The following day, despite being sore and struggling to move, Palermo got back on a treadmill to complete the final distance needed to hit his 50-kilometer (39.06 miles) target.
BPMATHON was live-streamed throughout, allowing audiences around the world to follow Palermo’s record-breaking attempt as it unfolded.
To make the challenge possible, he performed using a custom-built, self-pushed deejay rig on wheels, enabling him to run and deejay live simultaneously for eight hours straight. The mobile
setup featured AlphaTheta’s OMNIS DUO controller, while WAVE EIGHT speakers supported the public audio experience at The Underline.
“That was a wild ride. That was the longest deejay set I’ve ever played, and the second longest run in my life,” Palermo said. “Doing both at the same time is hard to describe. Not to mention this was peak Miami summer heat and I pushed a 70-pound cart the whole time. Sometimes I was deep in the pain cave and would go ‘Oh no…I have to deejay right now’ as the song was ending.”
Born in Miami to Cuban and Italian parents and raised in Weston Palermo’s life has long been shaped by music, sports and passion. From discovering his love of electronic music as a teenager at Ultra Music Festival and later spending hours at Club Space, to building a career in events, sales and entrepreneurship, he has consistently pushed himself beyond conventional limits.
Between 2020 and 2025, Palermo completed 14 endurance races, including seven Ironman competitions and seven marathons, using endurance sport as a foundation for discipline, resilience and mental strength. Those same values now sit at the heart of BPMATHON.
Palermo added, “The most special part of BPMATHON was how many people came out to run and/or support. The energy in the air was incredible, and it’s all thanks to everyone that came out to support. I’ve always loved endurance sports because it challenges me to find new versions of myself. In completing this world record, it ignited a fire in me to see what’s possible with other endurance feats that can be done while deejaying.”
Beyond the record itself, BPMATHON was created to encourage people to get outside, move their bodies and reconnect with their passions.
The initiative raised money in support of Friends of The Underline, a Miami based nonprofit dedicated to transforming public space into opportunities for healthier, more active living.
In a world increasingly shaped by AI, screens and social media, Friends of The Underline’s mission encourages people to move, decompress and spend more time outdoors through running, biking, walking and other forms of movement. BPMATHON aimed to support that mission by bringing people together around an accessible and community-driven celebration of movement.
“The best feeling ever is people reaching out saying that it was their longest run they’ve ever done,” Palermo said. “That’s the deeper reason for all of this; letting others know that they can do whatever it is they want in life and inspiring them to get outside and do more than they thought possible. We’re excited about the future of BPMATHON. We’re already planning the next one as we speak.”
At its core, BPMATHON demonstrates what can happen when passion meets discipline. What began as an idea to combine two of Palermo’s greatest passions, music and running, has now become a Guinness World Record and the first chapter of a broader vision to unite music, endurance and wellness.
BPMATHON marks the beginning of a global movement created by Eddy Palermo to inspire communities, promote positive lifestyle choices and encourage people to push beyond their perceived limits, with plans to curate further BPMATHON events globally.
