The internationally known Recycled Orchestra of Cateura — comprised of children from Asuncion, Paraguay, who play instruments made from scrap materials — will perform a Miami concert on Apr. 19 at Miami Dade College North Campus, 11380 NW 27 Ave.
The performance, which takes place at 4:30 p.m. in the William Lehman Theater of the Pawley Creative Arts Center, is hosted by the Emmy and Gold Medal-winning South Florida Youth Symphony (SFYS).
“The Recycled Orchestra is simply fantastic,” said Marjorie Hahn, SFYS executive and music director. “They are a testament to the fact that beautiful music can come from, literally, anywhere.”
Formed in 2012, the orchestra plays musical instruments made from materials collected from Asuncion’s Cateura landfill. They have performed internationally as well as with Stevie Wonder and American heavy metal bands Metallica and Magadeth.
A short film about the Recycled Orchestra will precede the performance. They also will show attendees their unique instruments.
Admission is $20; $10 for seniors and children ages 8 or younger. For tickets or more information, call the SFYS at 305-962-2079.
