Philanthropist, entrepreneur, television personality and No. 1 New York Times bestselling author Robin McGraw will visit Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Kendall Campus to commemorate Women’s History Month on Mar 19, inspiring students to empower themselves in the fight against domestic violence and sexual assault with two impactful presentations.

The afternoon session, “Empower Yourself,” begins at 1:55 p.m. in the Theodore R. Gibson Health Center Gymnasium. The afternoon session is open to the public and will be available via live stream. The morning session, targeted toward faculty, staff and educators, will focus on important topics such as sexual abuse and human trafficking. During this session, which will be moderated by MDC alumna and CBS4 anchor Marybel Rodriguez, McGraw will offer a keynote presentation on The Aspire Initiative and discuss ways a college can use the curriculum to help create a domestic violence education program. Retired, award-winning Miami news anchor and TV personality Jennifer Valoppi also will participate.

In the afternoon, McGraw will bring her message of empowerment to the broader campus and community with the “Empower Yourself” session. Joining McGraw will be two of her esteemed advisory board members: CNN and HLN news anchor/reporter Christi Paul, and Pat Smith, founder/CEO of “Treasure You” and the president of Pat and Emmitt Smith Charities.

As part of this important discussion, McGraw and her guests will address specific questions submitted by MDC’s student organizations. The session will conclude with the opportunity for everyone in attendance to take action and empower themselves by downloading the Aspire News app to their phones.

Launched in October 2013, the Aspire News App already has had more than 200,000 downloads and was recognized on Capitol Hill by the National Health Collaborative on Violence and Abuse as one of the two apps in 2014 most beneficial in the fight to end domestic violence.
