The Villagers present “Saving Places from the Risks of Climate Change” from 4:30-7:30 PM Monday, March 24th at the Coral Gables Museum, 285 Aragon Ave, Coral Gables.
Storms, wildfires, extreme heat, abnormal cold, flooding, and long dry spells are a normal part of today’s news coverage.
“In the Miami area, we have seen first hand the damage dramatic weather can cause,” said Villager President Kelley Schild. “Looking to the future, we wanted to take a deep dive into how we can protect our communities.”
“Homeowners and business owners will benefit from learning how to plan and prepare to save places that make our lives safe and worthwhile for the future,” said Becky Roper Matkov, Villagers’ Forum Chairman. “We have brought together the area’s leading experts to teach us how.”
The panel of leading Miami-Dade experts includes:
- Deborah Tackett, Chief Historic Preservation and Architecture Officer, City of Miami Beach
- Richard Heisenbottle, FAIA, President, RJ Heisenbottle Architects
- Christine Rupp, Executive Director, Dade Heritage Trust
- Deena Bell, Landscape Architect and Arborist, Asst. Public Works Director for Green Space Management, City of Coral Gables
- Samantha Barquin, Chief of Staff, Miami Waterkeeper
Topics to be discussed include:
- How can cities and historic landmarks mitigate risks from climate change?
- What can property owners do to lessen the risks from climate change?
- What can be done in landscaping, natural areas, and waterways to mitigate the risks of climate change?
Reservations are required, and admission is $10. Wine and light refreshments will be served. For tickets, visit Eventbrite at: https://shorturl.at/kyPtT
