School Board chair Rojas hosts Thanksgiving Turkey DistributionThe Honorable Miami-Dade County School Board chair and District 6 representative, Mari Tere Rojas, hosted her annual Thanksgiving Turkey Distribution on Friday, Nov. 14, at Riverside Elementary School, providing vital support to selected students and families from several Title I schools across the Little Havana community.

This long-standing initiative ensures families have the essentials to prepare a warm Thanksgiving meal, reflecting Rojas’ ongoing commitment to uplifting the community and helping families celebrate the holiday season with joy.

As part of the celebration, students from Riverside Elementary delighted attendees with a vibrant musical performance, showcasing the talent, creativity, and enthusiasm that define the students of District 6. Rojas also shared a special moment with the children by reading a Thanksgiving story, adding warmth and excitement to the event.

The gathering offered parents and guardians an opportunity to connect directly with Rojas in a welcoming, supportive environment, further strengthening community ties and reinforcing the district’s dedication to student and family well-being.

The event’s generous partners included the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida, Publix, and Sedano’s, whose contributions made the celebration possible. Together, they donated more than 200 turkeys and additional holiday treats to district families.

“We could not do this without our incredible school partners — truly, teamwork makes the dream work,” Rojas said.

Rojas also thanked Riverside Elementary principal Veronica Recio for hosting the event, and to everyone who helped make the day memorable for the students.
