A NEWS RELEASE FROM SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER ROBERTO J. ALONSO, DISTRICT 4

District 4 kicked off the holiday season in festive style on Saturday, December 13, as School Board Member Roberto J. Alonso hosted his 3rd Annual Cookies with Santa celebration at Miami-Dade College’s Hialeah Campus, in partnership with Miami-Dade County Commissioner Rene Garcia. Families from across the community enjoyed an evening of holiday cheer, student performances, and family fun.

The event showcased the talents of District 4 students and the generosity of community partners. Highlights included performances by the Hialeah Gardens Senior High School Jazz Band; the Hialeah Senior High School Royals and Cheerleaders; and choruses from Mae M. Walters Elementary School, James H. Bright/J.W. Johnson Elementary School, Flamingo Elementary School, Ernest R. Graham K-8 Academy, and West Lakes Preparatory Academy.

The Miami Lakes K–8 Center and Hialeah Gardens Senior High School Bible Clubs also participated. Miami-Dade College’s North Campus brought winter magic with decorations and a snow machine, while Senator Rene Garcia’s Office provided toys and a movie screen. EdFed donated $1,500 for toys, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital contributed blankets and toys, and the John F. Kennedy Library and Friends of the Miami-Dade Public Library promoted literacy through story readings and book donations.

All District 4 Key Clubs supported the celebration by collecting toys and volunteering. Participating clubs included Hialeah Senior High School, Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School, Hialeah Gardens Senior High School, American Senior High School, Jose Martí MAST 6–12 Academy, Westland Hialeah Senior High School, Barbara Goleman Senior High School, and Miami Lakes Educational Center.

“It is always a highlight of the year to see our community come together for this special tradition,” said School Board Member Roberto J. Alonso. “I am deeply grateful to Commissioner Rene Garcia, our community partners, and the many organizations that contribute year after year. Along with the incredible talent of our students, their generosity is the heart of this celebration and a true reflection of the joy and meaning of the season.”

The evening concluded with a special visit from Santa Claus, live carols, cookies from Miami Lakes Educational Center, and gingerbread houses from American Senior High School. The 3rd Annual Cookies with Santa successfully showcased local talent, strengthened community bonds, and marked a joyful start to the holiday season for hundreds of families.
