School board okays construction company for $8.8M GOB project

At its regular meeting held recently, the Miami-Dade County School Board approved JCI International Inc., to complete a General Obligation Bond (GOB) project at Jane S. Roberts K-8 Center in west Miami-Dade. The renovation project at the school has a construction budget of $8.8 million.

Built in 1990, the school was named for Jane S. Roberts, who was very active in community affairs and was elected to the school board in 1958 and served as the first female chairperson of the board from 1961 to 1967.

The campus consists of 16 buildings and six portables with 1,192 student stations, The scope of the project includes upgrading kitchen fixtures and existing restrooms for ADA compliance as well as upgrading the automatic fire suppression system in the kitchen. Selective areas of the roof will be replaced as well as certain windows and the cooling tower. Additionally, the exterior walls of the campus will be repainted.

Additional enhancements include upgrading the campus wide HVAC controls, the drainage system and the water cooler.

Total project allocation – approximately $8.8 million;
Final completion – May 2026;

Total sub-consultant Small/Micro Business Enterprise participation goals: 30.1 percent;
Total sub-consultant Minority/Women Business Enterprises participation goals: 20.41 percent.
