School Board Vice Chair Danny Espino hosted the first M-DCPS District 5 Quarterly Town Hall at Miami Springs Senior High School on October 19, 2023. The event delved into important topics such as managing mental health, fostering community partnerships, and celebrating District 5 students and staff achievements.
Keynote speakers included Sally Alayon, Assistant Superintendent from the M-DCPS Department of Mental Health, sharing insights into the department’s programs and other valuable resources for parents and students. Representatives of Mind Body Social, a wellness organization, also made a presentation on mindfulness and breathing techniques.
The last speaker was Al Garcia, president of the Homestead-Miami Speedway, who spoke about upcoming collaborations between the Speedway and M-DCPS. The event ended with Vice Chair Espino presenting certificates of recognition to outstanding students and staff, two (2) students and one (1) staff member from each of the District 5 schools.
“Community involvement, whether its non-profits or businesses, is key to the success of our schools. We all have a stake in ensuring that our kids get a world-class education, so they can become world-class leaders, businessmen and women, and with their talents can contribute to the improvement of our society,” stated Vice Chair Espino.
