Seraphic Fire in December celebrates a candle-lit Christmas singing timeless carols – The First Noel, Joy to the World, Silent Night, Carol of the Bells – and a musical presentation of the famed 1823 American poem “’Twas the night before Christmas.”
To incorporate the ambience of the poem, a choral arrangement of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy will be performed as well as a Latvian composition, Only in Sleep by Erik Esenvalds, featuring a stunningly beautiful soprano solo. There are new works by Audrey Snyder, The Christmas Processional, Sally Beamish’s In the Stillness, and June Collin’s The Quiet Heart.
Seraphic Fire has never sung Jolly Old St. Nicholas, but he appears on the roof of the house in the poem so the singers will delight the audience with a special rendition.
Conductor James Bass leads Seraphic Fire in this a capella concert/
“Somehow the music of the Christmas season brings that sensation of eagerness and hopeful wonder back to all of us, whether we’re 5, 55, or 95,
“ Bass said. “That’s what we will be trying to capture in this program. Seraphic Fire’s holiday concert is the perfect way to start the season.”
