Featuring the stunning music biopic, “Stelios,” one of the highest grossing Greek films of all time
The South Florida Greek Film Festival (SFGFF) returns for its third year celebrating the full gamut of Greek cinema, from Saturday, October 11 through Sunday, October 19, 2025, in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, announced today the festival’s producer and sponsor The Hellenic Cultural Society of South Florida (HCSSFL).
Dedicated to showcasing emerging as well as well-known Greek, Cypriot and Greek diaspora filmmakers, the Festival will screen a curated lineup of feature films, documentaries, and shorts offering audiences the diversity of narratives and themes explored in modern Greek cinema.
The Festival’s opening night will feature, “Stelios,” a riveting biopic of the legendary Greek singer Stelios Kazantzidis, a favorite collaborator of internationally renowned Greek composers Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Hadjidakis, and Vassilis Tsitsanis. Since its release in December 2024, “Stelios” has broken attendance records throughout Greece and has become the country’s fourth highest grossing film of all time.
“We strive to introduce our community to the most exciting Greek filmmakers working inside and outside of Greece today,” said Malvina Curie, Festival Director and HCSSFL President. “Now in our third year, the Hellenic Cultural Society presents the Festival under the auspices of The Consulate General of Greece here in Florida. Together, we work to connect the growing and globally recognized Greek film industry with the multicultural audiences of our region.”
The Festival’s schedule includes among others: “Meat,” a taut drama about a land dispute that turns fatal, an official selection of the Toronto International Film Festival; “Guest Star,” a satire about a staged romance between an underachieving celebrity son and a fading pop singer; and award-winning “Little England,” the fraught story of two sisters in love with the same man, directed by one of Greece’s most acclaimed contemporary filmmakers, Pantelis Voulgaris, celebrated for his deeply moving human storytelling.
SFGFF will screen movies at two historic area theaters, Savor Cinema, 503 SE 6th Street, Fort Lauderdale, and The Bill Cosford Cinema, 5030 Brunson Drive, Coral Gables. All films will be shown with English subtitles.
