South Florida PBS (WPBT & WXEL) is bringing attention to world hunger by hosting a virtual screening and discussion event for Comida Pa’ Los Pobres (Food for the Poor) on Thursday, September 30th at 7 PM on Facebook LIVE which we hope will create awareness of Puerto Rico’s on-going food scarcity.

In Comida pa’ los Pobres (Food for the Poor) Filmmaker Arleen Cruz-Alicea follows Giovanni, a young Puerto Rican activist, as he confronts the island’s persistent crisis of food insecurity. Motivated by his childhood struggle with hunger, he seeks to inspire his fellow citizens to join a movement of solidarity-oriented work by feeding families and college students through mutual aid efforts – all while facing challenges from local authorities.

The virtual screening will be followed by a discussion moderated by Jason Fitzroy Jeffers, Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director of the Miami-based filmmaking and creative collective Third Horizon. The panelists will include Filmmaker Arleen Cruz-Alicea and two Comedores Sociales Coordinators.
