The South Florida Youth Symphony (SFYS.net), one of the country’s leading youth music organizations, will hold a fundraising 1920s costume gala, Oct. 29, at the Miami Shores Country Club, 10000 Biscayne Blvd.
The gala, to benefit the 58-year-old organization’s ongoing mission of empowering young musicians, begins with a 6-7 p.m. cocktail hour, followed by dinner at 7 p.m.
At 8 p.m., Wendy Pedersen, “Miami’s First Lady of Jazz” and renown pianist Jim Gasior — who has performed and/or recorded with international artists such as Ricky Martin, Kelly Clarkson, Chayanne, Jose Feliciano, and Michael Bolton — will perform.
“This 1920s costumed soiree and cabaret jazz will be a night to remember,” said Marjorie Hahn, South Florida Youth Symphony executive and music director. “Being able to get entertainers such as Wendy and Jim is a coup for us. They are captivating.”
In addition to supporting the South Florida Youth Symphony’s ongoing music programs, a portion of the funds raised from the event will help the SFYS — which is comprised mainly of students from low income and underserved households in Miami-Dade and Broward counties — underwrite a proposed concert tour of Florence, Lucca and Rome, Italy in March 2023.
Individual gala tickets are $125 and a limited number of sponsorships are available at the Prelude ($1,500), Intermezzo ($2,500) and Fortissimo ($5,000) level. The Fortissimo level includes a table for 10 and a private concert at a residence or business event.
